The simple present describes regular actions, habits and facts.
Present continuous: I am studying now.
The present continuous describes an action in progress now or around the present time.
Past: I studied yesterday.
The simple past describes a completed action at an earlier time.
Past continuous: I was studying when she called.
The past continuous describes an action that was in progress at a particular time in the past.
